June 5, 2026 NEW YORK, NY — It was supposed to be a night of pure, unadulterated New York glory. The New York Knicks had just secured a thrilling Game 1 victory in the NBA Finals, sending shockwaves of euphoria through a city starved for a championship.

But within minutes, the ecstasy of victory curdled into absolute lawlessness.

What began as an authorized outdoor viewing party outside Madison Square Garden rapidly degenerated into a scene of chaotic destruction at the intersection of West 34th Street and 7th Avenue. By midnight, the intersection was less a celebration and more a battleground, leaving an NYPD chief injured, an emergency vehicle destroyed, and multiple fans in handcuffs.

The Siege of the Ambulance

At approximately 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3, a Northwell Health ambulance—urgently responding to an active emergency call with its lights flashing and sirens blaring—attempted to navigate its way through a sea of thousands of raucous fans.

Instead of parting, the mob surrounded the emergency vehicle.

Social media footage captured a shocking sequence of events: fans posing for selfies in front of the trapped ambulance, while others began pounding violently on the windows. The situation escalated drastically when individuals scaled the hood. One man managed to climb onto the roof, jumping up and down with such force that the vehicle suffered a shattered roof, broken antennas, and smashed windows, effectively knocking a life-saving vehicle out of commission.

A Veteran NYPD Chief Struck Down

As the crowd grew increasingly hostile, NYPD officers rushed the scene to restore order. Among them was Deputy Chief Timothy Beaudette, a highly decorated veteran cop frequently deployed to manage intense city protests.

The chaos turned violent when Chief Beaudette attempted to handcuff a 26-year-old man resisting arrest. The suspect began flailing his arms wildly, striking Beaudette squarely in the face and knocking the high-ranking officer to the pavement. Despite suffering acute injuries to his nose and legs, Beaudette managed to recover, overpower the suspect, and place him in cuffs.

The 26-year-old now faces severe charges, including:

  • Assault on a police officer

  • Resisting arrest

  • Obstructing governmental administration

  • Disorderly conduct

The Fallout: Handcuffs and Heavy Charges

In total, eight individuals were taken into custody during the midnight melee. While five overzealous fans were issued court summonses for minor infractions, three young men are now facing serious criminal records.

Beyond the alleged cop-assailant, police arrested another 26-year-old for the destruction of the ambulance, charging him with criminal mischief and resisting arrest. A 22-year-old was also tackled and arrested after physically blocking the ambulance from moving toward its emergency destination.

In response to the rapid escalation, the NYPD has significantly increased patrols and security grid lines around "The World’s Most Famous Arena." As the Knicks march deeper into the NBA Finals, city officials are left grappling with a terrifying question: How will New York handle it if they actually win the whole thing?
