August 21, 2026 THE BRONX, NY A quiet Thursday afternoon turned into terror on a Bronx street when a gunman inside a passing vehicle unleashed a barrage of bullets, leaving one man in critical condition and sending two others to the hospital.
The violent scene unfolded at approximately 3:17 p.m. on August 20 outside a laundromat located at 552 Commonwealth Avenue. According to police sources, three men were standing together on the sidewalk when a white SUV traveling northbound pulled up alongside them. An occupant inside the vehicle opened fire, discharging at least four rounds into the group before the SUV sped away.
The gunfire struck all three bystanders and sprayed neighboring property. A 29-year-old man suffered a devastating gunshot wound to the head, while a 28-year-old man was struck in the lower back. A third victim, also 29, was hit in the bicep. Parked vehicles along the block were also riddled with bullet holes from the stray fire.
Emergency responders rushed all three victims to Jacobi Hospital. The man shot in the head remains in critical condition as medical staff fight to save his life. The other two victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries and are expected to survive.
Detectives are actively hunting for the white SUV and its occupants. No arrests have been made, and the motive behind the shooting remains unclear as the investigation proceeds.
