April 17, 2026 QUEENS, NY It was supposed to be just another warm spring evening in St. Albans. The sun was still hanging over Roy Wilkins Park, and the Nautilus Playground was buzzing with the sounds of children playing and sneakers squeaking on the asphalt.

But at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday, the sounds of neighborhood joy were punctured by a single, deafening crack.

A Life Stolen in Daylight

Jaden Pierre, a 15-year-old boy from South Richmond Hill, won't be coming home. While families enjoyed the April heat near the corner of Merrick and Baisley Boulevards, a teenage dispute turned into a nightmare.

Preliminary reports suggest a fight broke out on the basketball courts—a common enough occurrence in city parks. But this time, it wasn't just a scuffle. Sources say Pierre was swarmed and beaten by a group of his peers before one individual pulled a trigger, firing a single round into the boy’s chest.

A Community at its Breaking Point

The 113th Precinct arrived to find Pierre collapsed near the courts, his life slipping away as park-goers looked on in disbelief. He was rushed to Jamaica Hospital, but the damage was done. The teenager was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

The tragedy has left a neighborhood reeling and activists fuming. This killing comes just days after the community buried Kaori Patterson-Moore, a 7-month-old infant killed by a stray bullet in a separate gang-related incident on April 1.

“Somebody is bringing guns into our community and putting them in the hands of our children,” said Erica Ford of Life Camp, her voice echoing the exhaustion of a neighborhood tired of burying its youth.

The Manhunt for the Grey-Clad Killer

The NYPD has labeled this a "horrific act of violence" and has launched a massive manhunt for the shooter. Detectives are currently searching for a suspect described as:

As of Friday morning, no arrests have been made. The playground remains a crime scene, a grim reminder that for the youth of Queens, even a basketball court can become a battlefield.
