September 1, 2026 NEW YORK, NY Midtown Manhattan turned into a zone of absolute horror when broad daylight chaos erupted in the heart of Times Square, leaving one innocent woman dead, another person hospitalized, and a knife-wielding attacker shot dead by police after a chilling four-minute standoff.
The madness unfolded just before 4:30 p.m. near West 43rd Street and 7th Avenue, right outside the bustling subway entrance and the NYPD’s local substation. According to Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch, 49-year-old Pamela Cisneros of Queens embarked on a frenzied, unprovoked stabbing spree armed with two knives pulled from a red target bag.
Within a span of just 20 seconds, the nightmare claimed its targets. Cisneros first blindsided a 68-year-old man waiting to cross the street with his wife, plunging a blade into his right abdomen. Stalking further up 7th Avenue toward 42nd Street, she targeted a 32-year-old woman, stabbing her in the stomach as terrified pedestrians scattered for cover. Both victims were rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where the female victim tragically succumbed to her injuries. The male victim is expected to survive.
Panic-stricken 911 calls flooded dispatchers as quick-thinking witnesses flagged down patrolling officers. What followed was a tense, high-stakes confrontation captured on video. Four officers closed in, attempting to de-escalate the situation through four agonizing minutes of negotiation.
