July 29, 2025 QUEENS, NY – A Queens man is now in police custody, accused of an unspeakable act of animal cruelty that shocked the city. Authorities announced Tuesday the arrest of Isaiah Gurley, 29, in connection with the horrific incident where a dog was allegedly dragged down a South Ozone Park street and then set on fire.
Police had been intensely searching for Gurley since last Thursday morning. That's when, according to investigators, he was spotted near 128th Street and 116th Avenue, reportedly dragging a "motionless" dog. The situation took a gruesome turn when Gurley allegedly poured an accelerant on the animal and ignited it before fleeing the scene.
Gurley, a Queens resident, was apprehended just yesterday. He now faces a litany of serious charges, including animal torture, aggravated cruelty to animals, and arson with intent to damage property.
Details regarding a possible attorney for Gurley were not immediately available. The arrest brings a measure of relief to a community sickened by the brutality of the crime, as the investigation continues into this disturbing case of animal abuse.
