September 17, 2026 BROOKLYN, NY A terrifying Thursday morning crash left a four-story residential building in Crown Heights severely damaged after a school bus careened off the street and slammed directly into the property, sparking immediate structural fears and displacing dozens of residents.

The incident occurred at approximately 7:21 a.m. along Eastern Parkway near Albany Avenue. According to NYPD officials, the 65-year-old male driver was traveling westbound when the vehicle jumped the curb, crossed the service road, and plowed into the front facade of 869 Eastern Parkway.

No students were on board at the time of the collision, and police reported no injuries on the scene. The driver refused medical treatment.

Surveillance Shows Bus Careening Through Intersection

Surveillance footage obtained by News12 captures the moment the massive yellow bus sped through the intersection before mounting the sidewalk and plowing straight into the multi-family structure.

Witnesses nearby described a terrifying scene as the heavy vehicle crashed through the building's exterior.

“He panicked, he lost his cell phone, he hit a tree and lost his brakes, he had to be doing 40 or 50 miles an hour,” said local resident Al Mckevery, a retired bus driver who heard the collision. “The mechanics did excellent work this is September so they definitely checked this bus out, he came right through the middle. It sounded like a bomb went off.”

Local resident Clare Paterson echoed the shock of the neighborhood: “It is an absolute miracle no one was seriously hurt or killed here.”

Mass Evacuation and Structural Concerns

While no lives were lost, the structural fallout was swift. Inspectors from the New York City Department of Buildings (DOB) responded to assess the stability of the four-story brick building and quickly issued a partial vacate order affecting seven of the eight residential units.

Emergency relief teams stepped in immediately to assist the victims:
