September 15, 2026 BROOKLYN, NY A sacred space dedicated to prayer and reflection turned into a scene of pure chaos when a wild-eyed intruder went on a terrifying rampage inside a Brooklyn synagogue, leaving a 16-year-old boy wounded in his path.
The horrifying assault unfolded at approximately 7:20 p.m. on Sept. 14 inside a house of worship located at 1675 54th St. in the heart of Boro Park. The attack hit the local community with devastating timing—striking just days after families gathered to celebrate Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year.
Terrifying Rampage Unfolds
Police rushed to the shul after panic-stricken witnesses placed a 911 call reporting an emotionally disturbed man raging out of control inside the sanctuary. Upon arriving at the scene, NYPD officers discovered that a teenager had been struck during the outburst.
Authorities say 22-year-old Keynes Shimon allegedly slashed and stabbed a 16-year-old boy in the hand using what law enforcement described as a sharp cutting instrument. The young victim miraculously survived the assault and declined further medical treatment at the scene.
A History at the House of Worship
Law enforcement sources familiar with the ongoing investigation revealed that Shimon is currently unhoused, with his last known address listed on Staten Island. Investigators noted that he was not an unfamiliar face to the area—he is known to have frequented the Boro Park synagogue in the past.
Officers managed to take Shimon into custody without further violence. He was immediately transported to a local hospital under police guard to undergo a comprehensive psychological evaluation.
