August 4, 2026 NEW YORK, NY The couch meant to offer a safe haven for healing became the site of an unthinkable betrayal. A Manhattan mental health professional is now at the center of a chilling criminal case that has sparked an urgent citywide manhunt for potential additional victims.
Remington Yhap, a 47-year-old Washington Heights resident and psychotherapist, was placed in handcuffs on July 29 following a harrowing investigation by the NYPD’s Special Victims Squad. Authorities fear that the horrific misconduct uncovered so far may only be the tip of the iceberg for a man who marketed himself as a culturally aware, nonjudgmental guide for those in deep distress.
A Twisted Betrayal of Trust
According to a criminal complaint filed by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office, Yhap was providing regular counseling to a 16-year-old transgender patient. The therapeutic relationship, which began in September 2025, devolved into a nightmare on June 15 inside Liberation Psychotherapy, located at 1215 6th Ave. in Midtown.
Investigators state that during a scheduled session, Yhap crossed every ethical and legal boundary imaginable. Prosecutors allege that the therapist forced the teenage victim into performing oral sex before sexually penetrating the child.
The complaint further reveals that the abuse was preceded by grooming behavior, with Yhap allegedly showing the minor explicit nude photographs and interrogating the child about past masturbation habits.
The brave victim eventually broke the silence, reporting the assault to the Manhattan Special Victims Squad and triggering the swift police intervention that led to Yhap's arrest.
The Fallout and the Search for More Victims
Following his July 30 arraignment before Judge Juliet Howard in New York County Criminal Court, Yhap was released after posting $75,000 bail. He is scheduled to return before a judge on October 1.
While Yhap's professional profile previously boasted specialties in depression, sex, and integrative care, his name has since been scrubbed from Liberation Psychotherapy's active roster.
