August 27, 2026 NEW YORK, NY A routine shift turned into a bloodbath inside the heart of New York City's transit system when an irate commuter turned a sharp blade on an transit worker who simply asked him to stop urinating on the subway platform.
The violence erupted around 10:30 p.m. on Monday, August 24, inside the sprawling Times Square-42nd Street station. A 30-year-old Metropolitan Transportation Authority cleaner was carrying out his nightly duties when he caught a man urinating in public view on the platform. When the worker confronted the man, a heated verbal dispute exploded into a physical brawl.
The altercation took a deadly turn when the perpetrator pulled out a sharp object and slashed the MTA employee across his left arm, leaving him bleeding heavily on the station floor.
Subway Strapper Escapes on Southbound Train
As the victim collapsed from a severe laceration, the attacker took advantage of the chaos, ducked into the station, and boarded a southbound 1 train to make his escape.
Officers from the Midtown South Precinct and NYPD Transit District 1 rushed to the scene alongside EMS paramedics. The injured cleaner was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where medical staff treated his severe wounds. He remains in stable condition.
Police released clear security images and video footage of the suspect, describing him as a light-complexioned male. He was last seen wearing a black t-shirt, blue shorts, white sneakers, and carrying a black backpack.

Under New York State law, assaulting an MTA employee on duty isn't just a misdemeanor—it is a violent felony carrying a penalty of up to seven years in prison.
