August 27, 2026 QUEENS, NY A quiet Sunday night in a residential Queens neighborhood transformed into a scene of utter horror when a killer ambushed a 33-year-old man, stabbing him repeatedly just a short walk from his front door.
The victim, identified as Jose Scott, was targeted around 9:45 p.m. on August 23 directly outside an auto repair shop at 220-20 Merrick Blvd. in Laurelton. Law enforcement sources report that an unidentified attacker approached Scott without warning, plunging a blade into his torso, abdomen, and back in a brutal, unrelenting assault.
A Desperate Race to Save a Life
Responding to frantic 911 calls reporting an assault in progress, officers from the 116th Precinct rushed to the bloody scene. The assailant had already sprinted away, disappearing into the dark before police units arrived.
EMS paramedics rushed Scott to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. Doctors fought desperately to stabilize the young man, but the catastrophic wounds proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
Police Release Footage of Suspect in Red Slippers
In a push to track down the killer, the NYPD released surveillance images and video footage capturing the fleeing suspect. Investigators describe the fugitive as wearing a gray shirt, green pants, and distinctive red slippers at the time of the deadly attack.
The tragedy comes at a tense moment for the local community. While total major crime across the 116th Precinct has dropped nearly 12% this year, homicides have surged—rising from zero during the same timeframe last year to four in 2026.
