November 2, 2026 NEW YORK, NY It was supposed to be one of her final practice runs before crossing the finish line of the 26.2-mile New York City Marathon this Sunday. Instead, a nightmare unfolded in the pitch-black shadows of a waterfront Brooklyn running path.

Katie Suarez, a 28-year-old TD Bank teller, is currently fighting for her life in critical condition after a ruthless unknown assailant stabbed her repeatedly in the neck—just minutes after she told her father she was almost home.

A Final Training Run Turns Into a Nightmare

The fateful evening began like any other routine training session. Katie wrapped up her shift at TD Bank around 6:30 p.m. on Friday and met briefly with her mother to swap her work clothes for her running gear.

Determined to complete her workout ahead of Sunday's marathon, she set out onto her route along the Shore Parkway Greenway.

At 7:56 p.m., her phone rang. It was her father checking in on her whereabouts.

Katie assured him she was close to her workplace and only about a five-minute run from meeting him. It was the last time her family would ever hear her voice.

A Father's Horrific Discovery

When Katie failed to arrive and stopped answering her phone, panic set in. Her father retraced her expected route, walking along the dark path in search of his daughter.

What he encountered near Shore Parkway and Bay 17th Street was every parent's ultimate horror:

  • The Scene: Katie was collapsed and unconscious on the ground, surrounded by blood.

  • The Injuries: She had suffered two severe stab wounds to both sides of her neck.

  • Emergency Response: First responders rushed her to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn in critical condition.

Reports indicate that the brutal attack has tragically left the young woman brain-dead.

“Nobody is supposed to have [their] life taken, you know, being bad or good, but she was kind of exceptional to me,” a heartbroken neighbor shared.

Pitch-Black Path and No Cameras: Detectives Seek Clues

NYPD detectives face a complex investigation. Law enforcement sources confirm that the section of the Greenway where Katie was ambushed was extremely dark, and there were no surveillance cameras nearby to capture the violent encounter.

Police currently have no suspect descriptions and no known motive for the unprovoked assault.

Investigators are diligently piecing together Katie’s movements between her 6:30 p.m. work shift departure and the 7:56 p.m. phone call, desperate for any detail that could lead to an arrest.
