November 2, 2026 THE BRONX, NY What began as a routine Thursday morning walk to school ended in unimaginable tragedy on the streets of the Bronx—and has now reached the highest office in the nation.
In a rare move of immediate cross-government intervention, President Donald Trump has agreed to grant an emergency visa to the mother of 15-year-old Javits Frimpong, allowing her to fly from Ghana to New York City to bury her teenage son.
A Phone Call Across Political Divides
The unprecedented development followed an emotional Saturday outreach from New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani directly to the White House.
“The murder of a child is a pain no parent should have to endure, let alone from thousands of miles away,” Mayor Mamdani stated on Saturday. “Javits Frimpong’s mother deserves to say goodbye to her son in person. I just got off the phone with President Trump, and he has agreed to grant her visa immediately. All of New York City is mourning this tragedy.”
A spokesperson for the Mamdani administration confirmed that the mayor personally reached out to Javits’ father to deliver the news that his wife would be permitted to enter the United States.
The White House did not immediately respond to requests for further comment on the decision.
