July 1, 2026 QUEENS, NY A routine Tuesday morning at a quiet Queens school transformed into a real-life horror movie after a routine pest control inspection uncovered a gruesome secret hidden deep within the building's infrastructure.

What was supposed to be a standard check for summer pests at P.S./I.S. 113, the Anthony Pranzo School in Glendale, turned into a full-blown crime scene investigation when an exterminator followed a sickening, foul odor straight to a school chimney.

'Too Much for Him': The Grim Discovery

The nightmare unfolded just before 9:00 AM at the school campus located at 78-23 87th Street. An unnamed pest control worker noticed an overpowering stench and decided to investigate the source. Upon opening a chimney access point, he made a stomach-churning discovery: the decomposing remains of an adult male.

In a state of shock, the worker flagged down school custodian Brendan Chavez.

“It was the pest control guy who caught the smell and opened it up and found an older man inside,” Chavez later recounted, still visibly shaken. “It was definitely not a kid but an older gentleman... The pest control guy who found it first, I was the second guy. He was here but he went home, I guess it was too much for him.”

A Community in Shock

As sirens pierced the morning air and helicopters circled overhead, panicked residents and parents rushed to the scene. The timing of the discovery has left the neighborhood deeply unsettled, especially with the school's summer camp program scheduled to launch next week.

  • George Perez, a local resident whose 11-year-old daughter Hazel attends the school, rushed over after hearing rumors. "She got a few phone calls this morning that a dead body was found in her school, so we decided to come and see for ourselves," Perez said. "The guy must have been dead for days. It’s kind of scary. I’m shocked to be honest with you."

  • Maggie Rosario, another Glendale neighbor, expressed her grief and concern for the community's children. "I heard all the helicopters and sirens before. So, I came out for a walk and then saw this happening," she noted. "They usually have a summer camp, and you know, kids that go. That starts next week. This really is sad."

Who is the Chimney Victim?

By Tuesday afternoon, Crime Scene Investigators from the 104th Precinct were spotted combing through evidence on the school's rooftop.

While the identity of the man remains a mystery, law enforcement sources have leaked a chilling theory: the remains may belong to a contractor who had been working on a recent construction project at the school. However, officials emphasize that it is still too early in the investigation to confirm this timeline or identity.

The city’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has taken custody of the remains to perform an autopsy, which will officially determine the exact cause of death and how long the body had been trapped inside the brick shaft.
