August 10, 2026 NEW YORK, FUCKING, NY Alright New York, here's what's pissing me off.  Now you better listen and listen good.  After a long tiresome day the last thing anyone wants, is to delay his or her trip on the elevator vs taking the alternative (Stairs) in their building.  It's the little things that just totally piss me off.

It might not seem like a lot, however when you live in a 30 story building in midtown with only two elevator banks and one elevator has been out of service for 3 months now, it's a pretty big FUCKING deal.  Now I don't mean to curse, however, it's so damn frustrating when this happens.  You're probably wondering what I'm talking about so here it goes.

I'm talking about fighting the commute home during rush-hour on a crowded subway, where the AC is barely running and it smells like a locker room met a fast-food restaurant.  Everyone is packed in the train, bodies up against each other feeling the heat and the dampness as well as smelling  all of the different scents around you.  Sometimes you just want to scream at the person next to you to move, however where are they going to go?  You just need to deal with it and hope the train makes it all the way to your stop without incident.

With that being said, getting back to what really pisses me off.  I'm in the lobby of my building and I do the usual, exchange pleasantries with the concierge and a few of the residents who are on their way out.  Then I get to the elevator and of course there is a mob of residents standing around waiting to go up.  As I mentioned earlier, one of our elevators is out of service so the commute home just got longer (No surprise there.).

At this point we are all waiting around, eyes of the residents are looking at the floor numbers decrease, then they look at their phones and then glance at the "Out of Service" sign on  the other elevator.  This goes on for quite some time in a rhythmic motion.  At this point we are all getting aggravated, annoyed even and then it happens every time.  One of the residents decides to push the down button.  Probably one of the worse things you can do to disrupt the flow of getting home.  Everyone standing around looks as her with disgust and so do I.  She looks back at us and  says "Whichever way it gets here the quickest, right?".  At this point no one has anything to say.

Finally after an eternity, the elevator arrives, the "Down Light" illuminates and we all pile in.  I happen to be standing  near the buttons so all the residents are asking me to press their floors and of course the resident who pushed the down button asked me as well.  "Can you press two please?" she asks with a smile.  "Unbelievable, two, THAT'S ONE FUCKING FLIGHT UP!" I said to myself.

I begrudgingly press "Two" and the doors finally close.  Just as soon as the doors close they reopened and "WHY!" you ask?  In simple terms the elevator now has to reset and register as going up instead of FUCKING down.  Once again the doors close and we are on our way up finally.  Now if she were actually going down to the basement, no one would even care, however she didn't, she's going to "Two".

As I said before, "It's the little things that piss me off.".  It might seem petty, however, when you are dealing with only two elevators and one out of the two is "Out of Service", let me know how you would handle the pettiness...
