June 24, 2026 NEW YORK, NY It was a crisp Tuesday evening on the Lower East Side, the kind of 5:30 p.m. rush hour where New Yorkers are either heading home from work or grabbing an early drink. But at the bustling corner of Bowery and Stanton streets, happy hour turned into a horror movie in a matter of seconds.
A wild, broad-daylight shootout erupted on the crowded pavement, leaving a 15-year-old boy wounded, bloody clothes scattered on the sidewalk, and terrified bystanders scrambling for their lives.
"Everyone Ducked": Terror at Bar Veloce
For patrons inside the nearby Bar Veloce, the evening went from relaxed to apocalyptic in a heartbeat. As the first deafening cracks echoed through the street, the reality of gun violence crashed through the neighborhood.
“Everyone ducked," a shaken bartender recalled. "I was in the back and I ran to unlock the basement door because I know other bartenders were out there.”
Outside, the scene was pure chaos. An eyewitness named Mike watched the nightmare unfold from just feet away. He described a calculated, terrifying scene as two men used parked vehicles as makeshift shields in a deadly game of cat-and-mouse.
"They were kind of like ducking back and forth," Mike said. "It sounded like fireworks at first. And then it kept going and going and going. Then you see the kid screaming."
A Teenager Shot, Gunmen Wait It Out
The target of the gunfire was a 15-year-old boy. Hit in the left leg, the teenager collapsed on the pavement in agony. In a state of sheer shock, the boy desperately tried to rip off his own clothing to assess the damage.
"He tried to pull off his clothes because he was shot somewhere in the leg... he tried to pull off his clothes, like bloody clothes and stuff," Mike recounted.
In a chilling twist, Mike noted that the ruthless gunmen didn’t even flee immediately after pumping bullets into the teen. Instead, they lingered at the scene while the victim lay bleeding.

NYPD Storms the Scene: Arrests Made
Officers from the 5th Precinct swarmed the intersection within minutes, flooding the Bowery with flashing lights and sirens. They found the wounded teenager amidst a sea of discarded bullet casings and blood-soaked sweatpants. EMS rushed the boy to Bellevue Hospital, where he is miraculously expected to survive.
The police response was swift and aggressive. Officers quickly rounded up two men for questioning. Bystanders watched as NYPD officers patted down one suspect and shoved him into the back of a cruiser.
While the intersection has since been cleared, the neighborhood remains deeply rattled by how quickly a normal Tuesday afternoon turned into a warzone. The investigation is still highly active, and charges against the suspects are currently pending.
