August 6, 2026 BROOKLYN, NY Parents trust public schools with their most precious gifts: their children. But for families at a Brooklyn middle school, that sacred trust was shattered in the most repulsive way imaginable.

According to a bombshell report released Thursday by the Special Commissioner of Investigation for the NYC School District (SCI), a teacher assigned to Restoration Academy in Bedford-Stuyvesant engaged in deeply disturbing, sexually explicit behavior—both inside a school classroom and live on a recorded virtual conference with parents.

The educator at the center of the storm has been identified as Zhengxian “Remy” Li.

From Language Presentation to Public Indecency

The nightmare unraveled in plain sight during what was supposed to be a routine virtual parent-teacher meeting. Investigators revealed that Li had just finished delivering a language department presentation. As another speaker took the floor, Li stood up from his desk and brazenly exposed his buttocks and genital area to the participants on the screen—completely unaware, or unconcerned, that the session was being recorded.

Shocked attendees quickly filed an online complaint, triggering an immediate and aggressive investigation by the SCI watchdog team.

However, as investigators dug deeper, the rot proved to run even deeper. Just three weeks after the virtual incident, a second horrifying complaint landed on the investigators' desks. This time, witnesses reported seeing Li inside a school classroom with his sweatpants pulled down, his hand inside his pants, engaging in actions explicitly described as "consistent with masturbation" right on school property.

Zero Tolerance, But How Did It Get This Far?

Special Commissioner Anastasia Coleman did not mince words when condemning the educator's repulsive actions.

“The conduct substantiated in this investigation was disturbing and wholly incompatible with the responsibilities of an educator,” Coleman stated. “Engaging in sexually inappropriate behavior in a school building and during virtual meetings involving parents is unacceptable. There is zero tolerance for sexual misconduct in New York City public schools.”

Following the damning probe, the SCI has laid down the hammer with a series of severe recommendations:

    • Immediate termination of Li's employment with the Department of Education (DOE).
    • Placement of a permanent red-flag problem code on his personnel file to permanently block him from ever working for the agency or its vendors again.
    • Formal referral of the investigative findings to the New York State Education Department for further punitive action.

A Growing Crisis in NYC Classrooms

This scandal is just the latest black eye for the city's public school system. It arrives on the heels of another recent SCI probe from last month, which revealed a former Queens public school teacher engaged in sexual misconduct and inappropriate communications with a student.

While the DOE insists it remains steadfast in its commitment to keeping schools safe, anxious parents are left asking a terrifying question: Who else is hiding behind the classroom door?

As of press time, the DOE and the Brooklyn District Attorney's office have yet to comment on whether criminal charges are pending against Li. One thing is certain—the fallout from this disgusting display is only just beginning.
