The brutal incident unfolded around 7:30 p.m. on June 25 near the intersection of Elliot Place and Jerome Avenue—just three days before the annual NYC Pride March.

According to police, a 43-year-old man was confronted by two men who began hurling anti-LGBTQIA+ slurs and derogatory remarks at him. What started as verbal abuse rapidly escalated into an out-of-control, violent frenzy:

  • Physical Assault: The assailants violently shoved the victim to the ground before repeatedly punching and kicking his body.

  • Blunt Force Strike: One of the attackers struck the 43-year-old over the head with a blunt object.

  • The Escape: Both attackers fled the scene on foot, leaving the victim bloodied and severely injured on the pavement.

Emergency responders rushed the victim to NewYork-Presbyterian Allen Hospital, where he was treated for serious physical injuries.

Police arrested Reyes at approximately 11:40 a.m. on Oct. 5 within the same neighborhood where the beatdown occurred.

However, the investigation is far from over. An NYPD spokesperson confirmed that the second suspect involved in the violent ambush has not yet been apprehended.
