June 17, 2026 THE BRONX, NY It was a crisp Wednesday afternoon, the kind of day where the rhythm of the Bronx feels familiar, predictable, and safe. Neighbors were walking, businesses were open, and the corner of University Avenue and West 183rd Street was humming with life.
Then, at exactly 1:23 p.m., the peace was instantly shattered by the terrifying crack of gunfire.
When the smoke cleared, two people were left bleeding on the pavement—including a 79-year-old woman who had simply been minding her own business.
Caught in the Crossfire
According to the NYPD, the block descended into pure chaos when multiple shots rang out. A 26-year-old man was struck squarely in the left leg. But in a heartbreaking turn of events, the bullets didn't stop there.
The 79-year-old woman, a beloved elder of the community who police sources confirm was an entirely innocent bystander, was also struck in the left leg. She had done nothing wrong; she was simply in the wrong place at the worst possible time.
"It’s a miracle they survived, but a woman of that age shouldn't have to dodge bullets just to walk down her own street."
Emergency responders rushed to the scene, treating the heavily bleeding victims before tearing down the avenue toward the hospital. Fortunately, both the young man and the elderly woman are currently listed in stable condition, though the psychological scars of the afternoon will undoubtedly last a lifetime.
Gunmen on the Loose: The Manhunt Begins
As victims lay wounded, the cowards responsible for the carnage did what they do best: they ran.
Police report that two male suspects fled the scene on foot immediately after the trigger was pulled, disappearing into the crowded Bronx streets. As of right now, no arrests have been made, and the shooters remain at large, armed and dangerous.
Detectives are currently working the pavement, hunting for surveillance footage to determine if the 26-year-old man was the intended target, or if this was an act of completely random violence.
