August 12, 2025 BRONX NY — A 21-year-old man faces serious charges, including vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated, following a devastating multi-vehicle crash on a Bronx highway that left two people dead. The victims were young motorcycle riders, and the tragic incident has once again highlighted the deadly consequences of drunk driving.
The Crash
The events unfolded around 1 a.m. on Monday on the Bronx River Parkway. According to NYPD officials, Mauricio Neyra Yuyes of White Plains was allegedly driving a 2019 Mercedes Benz while intoxicated. As he was traveling southbound near East 223rd Street, he attempted to pass a 2015 Volkswagen GTI.
The maneuver went horribly wrong. Yuyes' Mercedes struck the Volkswagen, sending it careening into a guardrail. He then lost control and crashed into two 2023 Taizhou motorcycles that were riding side-by-side in the right lane.
The impact threw both motorcycle riders onto the pavement. The victims were identified as 19-year-old Manuel Amarantepenalo and 21-year-old Enrique Martinez, both residents of the Bronx. They were rushed to local hospitals but, sadly, could not be saved.
The driver of the Volkswagen was uninjured and refused medical treatment at the scene. In the aftermath of the crash, the southbound lanes of the Bronx River Parkway near Exit 9 at Gun Hill Road were temporarily closed as police investigated.
