April 18, 2026 NEW YORK, NY New York City’s transit system has seen its share of chaos, but a recent stomach-turning assault in the Bronx has left residents reeling and police on a massive manhunt. What started as a simple bus ride ended in a nightmare for a 79-year-old man who was just trying to get to his destination.

A Random Act of Violence

On the afternoon of April 7, while most people were heading home or running errands, a senior citizen was sitting on the M4 MTA bus near Broadway and West 135th Street. At approximately 3:06 p.m., the peace was shattered.

An unidentified man approached the victim, sparking a verbal dispute out of thin air. But the words quickly turned into a physical nightmare. The suspect reportedly unleashed a barrage of punches to the elderly man’s face before wrapping his hands around the victim’s throat in a terrifying choking maneuver.

The Escape

After the brutal encounter, the attacker didn't stick around to answer for his crimes. He bolted from the bus, fleeing northbound on Broadway toward West 136th Street.

Emergency responders rushed to the scene, transporting the bloodied and shaken victim to New York-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center. While he is currently in stable condition, the psychological scars of such a brazen attack on a vulnerable senior are sure to linger.
