November 5, 2025 BROOKLYN, NY The streets of Crown Heights, Brooklyn, ran cold this past Saturday as a seemingly senseless act of violence stole the life of a bright, 16-year-old Bronx student, leaving a heartbroken family and a community demanding answers.
Tyson "TJ" Harps, a promising young man with a passion for sports and a future at a school he loved, was fatally shot in the head just before 8:45 p.m. The scene of the tragedy was in front of an apartment building on Eastern Parkway. According to initial reports from the NYPD, the victim had no prior criminal record, and as of now, police are operating without a known motive.
TJ’s visit to friends in Brooklyn from his Bronx home was cut tragically short. His mother, an "overprotective" parent who wishes to remain unidentified, recounted texting with her son just moments before the fatal attack. Her subsequent race from the Bronx to Brooklyn ended in unimaginable grief.
"I sat and watched my son lying there for hours before being picked up, and I felt that my son felt alone. My son doesn't even know that I ran to his side," the devastated mother stated, her only thought focused on her son in his final moments.
Residents near the scene paint a grim picture, with one reporting hearing at least eight shots ring out on the usually bustling street.

Police are actively pursuing leads, including a description of a male suspect wearing a dark, hooded jacket. With a brilliant young life extinguished and a family left shattered, the focus now turns to justice. The Harps family is making an urgent plea to the public: Anyone with information, no matter how small, is asked to come forward to help bring TJ's killer to justice.
