June 23, 2025 BROOKLYN, N.Y. – A Saturday night joyride turned into a nightmare for a 15-year-old boy in Bushwick, who was shot in the back while riding his kick scooter. Police are now actively searching for the gunman responsible for this brazen act of violence.

The incident unfolded on June 21, around 7:19 p.m., when officers from the 83rd Precinct responded to a 911 call reporting an assault near Broadway and Furman Avenue. Upon arrival, they discovered the young victim, who had sustained a gunshot wound to his back.

The teenager was immediately rushed to Maimonides Hospital, where he underwent surgery. Thankfully, he is expected to survive this harrowing ordeal.

Investigation Underway: Was the Teen Targeted?

The scene Saturday night was marked by police tape, with the victim's bright blue scooter lying on the sidewalk as evidence. Investigators recovered several shell casings, indicating the severity of the attack.

While authorities have yet to officially determine a motive for the shooting, sources close to the investigation suggest that the 15-year-old was the intended target. This raises concerning questions about the nature of the dispute and why such a young individual would be singled out.

Police describe the suspect as a gunman dressed in a black hooded sweatshirt, last seen fleeing northbound on Granite Street. As of Sunday, no arrests have been made, and the NYPD investigation remains ongoing.
