March 10, 2026 New York City’s transit system was rocked by a "pure evil" random attack on Sunday morning, leaving an 83-year-old man fighting for his life and a 30-year-old straphanger traumatized.

The NYPD has launched a city-wide manhunt for the unidentified predator who turned the Lexington Avenue-63rd Street station into a scene of horror at 11:30 a.m. on March 8.

A Double Dose of Senseless Violence

The attack, which police describe as completely unprovoked, unfolded in rapid, terrifying succession on the southbound F and Q platform:

  1. The First Victim: The suspect approached a 30-year-old man standing near the edge and violently shoved him onto the tracks.

  2. The Second Victim: Without breaking stride, the assailant walked up to an 83-year-old man and hurled him off the platform as well.

The attacker then casually fled the station on foot, disappearing into the Midtown crowds before police could arrive.

Heroes on the Tracks

A potential massacre was only averted by the split-second bravery of fellow commuters. As the victims lay on the roadbed, "Good Samaritans" leaped into action, hauling both men back onto the platform just moments before the next train entered the station.

Officers from the 19th Precinct and Transit District 1 arrived to find the victims in varying states of distress. EMS rushed both to Weill Cornell Medical Center. While the younger man is listed in stable condition, the 83-year-old victim remains in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.

The Face of the Maniac

On Monday, the NYPD released crystal-clear surveillance images of the man they believe is responsible. He was last seen wearing:

  • A distinctive gray jacket

  • A red hooded sweatshirt

  • Light-colored pants
