The Terrifying Trail of a Weekend of Slashing
October 28, 2025 BROOKLYN, NY — A suspect believed to be responsible for a chilling spree of random subway slashings over a single weekend is now in custody, but the details of his arrest are as bizarre as the attacks themselves. Twenty-seven-year-old Odyssey Head was apprehended in connection with a separate incident: a peculiar burglary and arson in East Flatbush, Brooklyn.
Police say early Saturday morning, around 5 a.m., Head allegedly broke into a building on New York Avenue. This wasn't a typical robbery, however; he reportedly damaged laundry appliances and then set fire to items of clothing before fleeing the scene.
Connecting the Dots: The Slashing Spree
While the arrest was initially for the burglary, authorities quickly connected Head to a terrifying 24-hour period that left three men wounded. Police suspect Head carried out the following attacks in the Flatbush area, all of which involved a slash to the left side of the victims' faces:
- Attack 1 (Saturday morning): A victim was slashed while riding a Q train.
- Attack 2 (Saturday night): The second attack occurred just before 10 p.m. near Foster Avenue and New York Avenue in East Flatbush.
- Attack 3 (Sunday morning): The third victim was attacked just before 7 a.m. on Newkirk Avenue in East Flatbush.
The victims, aged 37, 53, and 56, were all treated at a hospital and reported to be in stable condition.
The Evidence: Kitchen Knife and Psych Evaluation
At the time of his arrest, officials found Head in possession of a kitchen knife, which they believe is the weapon used in the slashings. Following his apprehension, Head was taken to Maimonides Medical Center for a psychological evaluation.

It's important to note that as of this report, Head has been arrested in connection to the burglary, and while he is the primary suspect in the slashings, he has not yet been formally charged for those subway attacks.
Amidst the Fear, Transit Officials Talk Safety
Despite this high-profile weekend of violence, MTA officials at their board meeting on Monday touted statistics suggesting an improved safety outlook in the transit system. They reported a 4.2% decrease in crime and a significant 44% increase in arrests compared to the same time last year.
Stay tuned for updates on this developing story and the formal charges against the suspect.
