January 3, 2026 A routine Thursday evening in Wakefield was shattered by a hail of bullets and breaking glass, leaving a young man fighting for his life and a community on edge.

At approximately 6:30 p.m. on East 236th Street, what began as a verbal disagreement inside a local bodega escalated into a brazen act of violence. By the time the smoke cleared, a 24-year-old victim was left with gunshot wounds to his neck and abdomen, and three suspects had vanished into the night.

The "Buzz-In" Ambush

Surveillance footage captured the chilling moments leading up to the trigger pull. Two men—one wearing a surgical mask—approached the shop and waited to be buzzed in. Once inside, they confronted the victim.

The situation turned chaotic when a third accomplice, clad in a bright orange coat, arrived at the scene. In a desperate scramble to flee the store after the shots were fired, the gunman found himself trapped. In a scene straight out of an action movie, the suspect blasted his way through the glass door to make his escape.

The Suspects: Have You Seen These Men?

The NYPD has released specific descriptions of the trio, all believed to be between 20 and 30 years old. They are currently considered armed and dangerous.

  • Suspect 1: Wore a black jacket with "Amiri" emblazoned in white.

  • Suspect 2: Wore a teal jacket and a surgical mask.

  • Suspect 3 (The Shooter): Spotted in a loud orange jacket with black lettering over a red sweatshirt.

The Great Escape

The getaway was split into two directions. Two of the men were seen speeding away in a white sedan with heavy dark-tinted windows, heading east. The third suspect, likely the shooter who broke the glass, fled on foot, disappearing westbound down East 236th Street.

A Community in Fear

The victim was rushed to Jacobi Hospital, where he is currently listed in stable condition—a miracle considering the location of his wounds. As of Friday morning, the motive remains a mystery, and no arrests have been made.

The glass may be swept up, but the fear in Wakefield remains. The NYPD is pleading with the public for any information that could lead to an arrest.
