January 5, 2026 The streets of Queens have a new face of fear, and it arrives on two wheels.
In a chilling display of cowardice, a 77-year-old man was hunted and robbed in broad daylight just days ago. The attack, which took place in the bustling heart of Corona, has left a neighborhood on edge and the NYPD scrambling to track down two masked individuals who used an electric scooter as a getaway vehicle.
The Ambush at 4:40 P.M.
It was a Friday afternoon—November 21, 2025—around 4:40 p.m., a time when neighbors are usually heading home for the weekend or grabbing groceries. The victim was standing in front of 45-14 104th Street when the peace was shattered.
Two men, eyes peering out from behind black ski masks, rolled up on an electric scooter. In a swift, practiced motion, one of the assailants lunged at the elderly man, reaching into his pockets and snatching his wallet. Inside was the man’s life on plastic—multiple credit cards—and about $100 in cash.
Before witnesses could even process the crime, the duo hopped back onto their scooter and vanished, speeding westbound on 46th Avenue.
Do You Recognize These Hooded Suspects?
The NYPD has released surveillance footage in hopes that someone can identify these predators before they strike again. Both suspects are described as young men between the ages of 18 and 25.
-
Suspect #1: Last seen in a blue sweatshirt, blue jeans, white sneakers, and a black ski mask.
-
Suspect #2: Last seen in a black sweatshirt, dark jeans, black sneakers, and a matching black ski mask.
While the 77-year-old victim was not physically harmed, the psychological toll of being targeted in one's own neighborhood is a weight no senior should have to carry.
A Community Under Watch
This "snatch-and-grab" scooter tactic is becoming a hauntingly familiar pattern across the boroughs, allowing criminals to strike and disappear into traffic in seconds. Local residents are being urged to stay vigilant and keep an eye out for scooters carrying masked riders, especially near residential doorsteps.
