August 8, 2025 Brooklyn, NY A shocking incident at the Barclays Center has put the WNBA on high alert after a person attempted to throw a sex toy onto the court during a recent New York Liberty game. The projectile, a lime green dildo, missed its intended target and instead landed near a young fan, causing a commotion and prompting an investigation by both the Liberty organization and the New York Police Department.
The incident occurred during a game against the Wings. According to an eyewitness, the object was thrown from an upper part of Section 116 and landed at the feet of a young girl attending the game with her mother. The fan, who wished to remain anonymous, described the scene as "pretty chaotic," noting that the girl screamed for about 30 seconds after the dildo landed, drawing the attention of those in the surrounding rows. Security personnel were alerted, and the mother and daughter spoke with them, receiving assurances that camera footage would be reviewed to identify the person responsible. A worker reportedly retrieved the item from the stands.
This is not the first time a sex toy has been thrown during a WNBA game. The object in question resembles those seen in at least four other recent incidents, raising concerns about a disturbing new trend. A security professional with the NBA described the situation as "new," and confirmed that the league is actively trying to determine the origin and motivation behind these acts. The league plans to develop a strategy to "eliminate it from the game altogether because it’s not needed. It’s not helping the game."
The Liberty declined to provide further details, confirming only that an investigation is ongoing. The focus now shifts to finding the individual responsible and preventing future occurrences that disrupt games and, more importantly, endanger fans.
