January 22, 2026 BRONX, NY The Bronx Special Victims Squad has a message for the Morris Park community: Check this face.

Police have gone public with the arrest of 34-year-old Jayvone Johnson, a middle school girls' basketball coach and gym teacher, after a year-long investigation into a horrifying allegation of sexual assault. Now, detectives are working under the chilling suspicion that the girl who came forward may not be the only one.

A Year in the Making

The nightmare allegedly began on December 23, 2024. According to law enforcement sources, Johnson—then 33—raped a 14-year-old girl within the confines of the 48th Precinct.

It took nearly 365 days of painstaking investigation, but the Special Victims Squad finally moved in. Johnson was arrested on December 21, 2025, almost a year to the day after the reported assault.

"Seize Your Moment"

Before his arrest, Johnson was a visible figure at Icahn Charter School 2, which shares space with P.S./M.S. 498 on Bronxdale Avenue. He wasn't just a teacher; he was a coach entrusted with the mentorship of young female athletes.

In a digital twist, Johnson’s LinkedIn account—which featured the predatory-sounding mantra "Seize your moment"—was abruptly deactivated shortly after the NYPD went public with their plea for information.

Are There More Victims?

The NYPD doesn't release mugshots on a whim. They do it when they believe a predator has a pattern. Detectives are now urging anyone who had contact with Johnson at the school or through his coaching roles to ask themselves if they saw something—or experienced something—that needs to be reported.

The authorities are looking for any "potential victims" who may have been silenced by fear or the coach’s position of power.
