November 17, 2025 BROWNSVILLE, BROOKLYN – An NYPD officer sustained a non-life-threatening injury after being shot by a suspect who opened fire on police during a homicide investigation in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn Monday morning. The suspect was later found dead inside the residence from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The incident began just before 8 a.m. on Thomas S. Boyland Street, where officers had responded to a home to investigate a reported homicide.
Shootout and Officer Injury
Upon arrival, officers were engaged in a shootout with an individual armed with a shotgun who was inside the building.
One officer was struck during the exchange. The injured officer was quickly transported to Brookdale University Hospital in the back of a police cruiser and is reported to be in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
Homicide Victim and Suspect Found
Before the confrontation began, officers found the suspect’s initial victim outside the home—a 41-year-old man who had suffered a gunshot wound to the chest.
Following the initial gunfire with police, the suspect barricaded inside the residence. Police later found the individual dead inside the home, having sustained an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Additional Injuries Reported
In a separate but related incident near the scene, two additional police officers were injured in a vehicular crash while responding to the emergency. Both officers received treatment and are expected to recover.
