July 31, 2025 Bronx, NY – Funeral services for New York City Police Officer Didarul Islam, tragically killed in Monday’s devastating Midtown mass shooting, have been announced for Thursday, July 31, 2025. Officer Islam's final farewell will take place at the Parkchester mosque, Jam Masjid, in the Bronx, with separate viewings for men and women preceding a private prayer service. The somber event is expected to draw a significant presence, including Mayor Eric Adams and top police officials.
Officer Islam's death has sent shockwaves through the city and the NYPD. On Wednesday, Mayor Adams, Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch, and Governor Kathy Hochul began their day by attending morning roll call at the 47th Precinct, where Officer Islam served, delivering heartfelt remarks to his grieving colleagues.
His body was released to the funeral home on Tuesday afternoon in a dignified transfer, an emotional scene witnessed by hundreds of uniformed officers. PBA President Patrick Hendry encapsulated the profound loss, telling amNewYork, "Our brother should have gone home to the Bronx last night to embrace his family. Instead, his fellow New York City police officers are carrying him home, and we are going to embrace his family as if they are our own."
Officer Islam, in full uniform and working a paid detail, was among four innocent lives senselessly taken in Monday's rampage. He was gunned down by Shane Tamura, a Las Vegas security guard, who embarked on a bloody massacre at a Park Avenue location, believed to be the NFL headquarters. The other victims were identified as 32BJ SEIU security officer Aland Etienne, Blackstone's Wesley LePatner, and Rudin Management associate Julia Hyman.
