May 9, 2026 NEW YORK, NY — The neon lights of the Lower East Side couldn't mask the horror that unfolded in the early morning hours on Orchard Street, and now, police finally have a name and a face for the violence.

Detectives are officially on the hunt for 33-year-old Shaquan Edwards, the man they say turned a night out into a bloodbath.

A Good Samaritan’s Nightmare

It was 3:00 a.m. on January 4th—the witching hour in one of New York’s busiest nightlife hubs. Outside the Skinny Bar and Lounge at 174 Orchard Street, a heated dispute broke out. According to investigators, Edwards was embroiled in a confrontation with a friend of a 25-year-old man.

In an act of bravery that ended in tragedy, the young victim stepped between the two men, hoping to de-escalate the situation. Instead of backing down, police say Edwards pulled a "cutting instrument" and slashed the man across the face in a sudden, vicious strike.

As the victim collapsed and the sidewalk stained red, the attacker vanished into the shadows of Stanton Street, fleeing on foot before the first sirens could reach the scene.

A Career of Chaos?

This isn't the suspect's first brush with the law. Sources close to the investigation reveal that Edwards is no stranger to handcuffs, boasting three prior arrests. His most recent "collar" was just this year for reckless endangerment, suggesting a pattern of behavior that has residents and patrons of the LES on edge.

The 25-year-old victim was rushed to Bellevue Hospital. While he survived the encounter and was listed in stable condition, he bears the physical and emotional scars of a split-second decision to do the right thing.

THE MANHUNT IS ON: How You Can Help

The NYPD released Edwards’ photo Friday morning, and they are counting on the "eyes of the city" to track him down.
