August 12, 2025 NEW YORK — The NYPD has launched a manhunt for a man believed to be the latest culprit in a disturbing trend plaguing the WNBA: a series of lewd sex toy-throwing incidents. The man, who was captured on surveillance footage wearing a 'Beavis and Butthead' t-shirt, is wanted in connection with an incident at a recent New York Liberty game where a green sex toy was allegedly hurled from the stands, striking a 12-year-old girl.

The incident, which occurred on Tuesday night at the Barclays Center, adds to a growing list of unsettling disruptions across the league. According to a fan account obtained by the New York Post, the girl screamed for an agonizing 30 seconds after being hit by the object. While the item didn't reach the court, arena security reportedly disposed of it swiftly. The suspect, with tattoos visible on his arms, was also seen in security footage wearing a red and black hat as he exited the arena.

This incident wasn't an isolated event. Another sex toy was thrown at an Indiana Fever game against the Los Angeles Sparks on the same night. Fever star Sophie Cunningham, who had previously spoken out against the trend, was struck by the object, which was reportedly thrown from the stands.

Arrests, Apologies, and a Bizarre Crypto Connection

The WNBA's troubles with these bizarre pranks have already led to multiple arrests. Last week, Kaden Lopez, an 18-year-old, was arrested in Phoenix on suspicion of disorderly conduct, assault, and public display of explicit sexual material. He was captured on video throwing a "green dildo" at a Mercury-Sun game, which hit an adult male attending the game with his 9-year-old niece. Lopez allegedly told police the act was a "stupid prank that was trending on social media."

Days earlier, 23-year-old Delbert Carver was arrested in Atlanta, accused of throwing sex toys onto the court in two separate games. Carver reportedly confessed to police and was charged with disorderly conduct, public indecency, and criminal trespass.

Even more bizarrely, a group of cryptocurrency traders has claimed responsibility for the pranks. A spokesman for the group told USA Today they are behind the incidents, and their motivation is to promote their new meme coin: Green Dildo Coin (DILDO). Text messages obtained by USA Today reportedly show the group coordinating the stunts before the coin’s launch, with the first incident occurring the very next day.

As the NYPD continues its search, the WNBA and its players are left to contend with a baffling new security threat that appears to be part of a coordinated and bizarre promotional campaign.
