August 13, 2025 BROOKLYN — The quiet of a Tuesday evening in Prospect Park South was shattered by gunfire, leading to a dramatic confrontation as NYPD officers found themselves in the middle of a two-man shootout. The officers’ swift intervention resulted in one gunman being shot and a community's peace being restored, albeit briefly.

Around 7:30 p.m., two officers on patrol near Ocean Avenue heard the unmistakable sound of shots being fired. They quickly pinpointed the source and discovered two individuals actively shooting at one another. Without hesitation, the officers exited their patrol car, drew their firearms, and engaged one of the gunmen.

The suspect, later identified as 22-year-old Edynesson Bauduy, was struck by at least one bullet. He was rushed to Kings County Hospital and is now in stable condition. Both officers involved in the shooting were also taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation, a standard procedure after such a high-stress incident.

The other gunman fled the scene toward Church Avenue and remains at large. Police recovered one firearm and several casings from the scene, and the investigation is ongoing.

A Familiar Face in the System

Assistant Chief Frank Giordano of Patrol Borough Brooklyn South minced no words at a press conference following the incident. He described Bauduy as a familiar face to the criminal justice system—a two-time convicted felon who was on parole until 2030.

Bauduy's release from prison on June 10, just two months before this latest incident, was a point of contention for Giordano. The young man had pleaded guilty to a shooting in 2021 and a subsequent commercial robbery.

“If he received a consecutive sentence for his two distinct violent crimes, he would not be out on the streets right now,” Giordano stated, highlighting a common critique of the judicial system. “This is a person who has repeatedly shrugged his shoulders at consequences and at our criminal justice system.”

Giordano praised the officers' quick thinking and bravery. “Our officers ran towards gunfire, and they bravely and immediately confronted a dangerous situation,” he said. “They did exactly what they were trained to do.”

As the search for the second suspect continues, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangerous challenges law enforcement faces daily, and the complex issues surrounding recidivism and judicial sentencing.
