July 24, 2025 NEW YORK, NY – Get ready, New Yorkers! The city's beloved Summer Streets program is back, bigger and better than ever. NYC Department of Transportation (NYC DOT) Commissioner Ydanis Rodriguez announced the return of the massively expanded initiative, offering an unprecedented 22 miles of car-free streets across all five boroughs. This year marks a historic milestone, featuring, for the first time, a continuous route spanning the entire length of Manhattan, from the Brooklyn Bridge all the way to Inwood.
Starting this Saturday, July 26th, and running for five consecutive Saturdays through August 23rd, Summer Streets transforms the urban landscape into vibrant corridors for pedestrians, cyclists, and families. From 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. each Saturday, you can explore miles of open road, free from vehicles and brimming with free programming, art installations, fitness activities, and cultural events.
"Summer Streets redefines our public spaces, turning city streets into dynamic avenues of movement, culture, and creativity," stated Commissioner Rodriguez. "This significant expansion of Summer Streets underscores the Adams administration's dedication to fostering more vibrant and inclusive streets – places where community life can truly flourish alongside how we navigate our city."
