April 6, 2026 BROOKLYN, NY A 68-year-old man looking for a quiet night in Brooklyn ended up in a hospital bed with a fractured face after a predator hunted him down in one of the city's busiest hubs.
Hunted on the Sidewalk
It was just after midnight on March 31 near the intersection of Flatbush and Atlantic Avenues. What started as a verbal dispute quickly turned into a nightmare. Realizing he was in danger, the 68-year-old victim tried to do the right thing: he ran.
But the "brute" in the red shirt wouldn't let him go.
In a terrifying display of aggression, the assailant chased the senior down. When he caught him, he delivered a single, devastating punch to the face that sent the man tumbling onto the unforgiving concrete.
The Aftermath: A Shattered Jaw
The impact wasn't just a bruise. The victim suffered deep lacerations and a fractured jaw, injuries so severe that EMS had to rush him to Methodist Hospital. While he is currently in stable condition, the road to recovery for a man of his age will be long and painful.
The "Statistical" Lie?
This attack highlights a chilling trend that city officials might not want you to notice. While Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Commissioner Jessica Tisch recently hailed a "decline in major crimes," the residents of the 78th Precinct are seeing a different reality:
-
Felony assaults are up 21.1% compared to last year.
-
46 brutal incidents have already been recorded as of April 1.
The numbers suggest that while the headlines say "safer," the streets near the Barclays Center are feeling more dangerous than ever.
