January 31, 2026 QUEENS, NY Residents of a quiet Far Rockaway apartment complex are looking over their shoulders today after a 59-year-old man was found dead under "grim" and violent circumstances on Friday afternoon.
What started as a routine 911 call for an unconscious person quickly turned into a high-stakes death investigation as detectives from the 101st Precinct flooded the building at 20-50 Nameoke Ave.
A Scene of "Body Trauma"
At approximately 2:40 p.m. on January 30, officers entered the premises to find a scene that was far from natural. The victim, a 59-year-old male, was discovered unresponsive with significant injuries to his head and face.
The trauma was so severe that responding EMS units didn't even attempt a hospital transport—the man was pronounced dead right there on the scene.
The Investigation: What We Know
While police have remained tight-lipped about a motive, the nature of the injuries has shifted the focus toward a potential homicide. Here is the current state of the investigation:
-
The Victim: His identity is being withheld pending the notification of his family, but he is confirmed to be a 59-year-old male.
-
The Cause: The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has taken custody of the body to perform an autopsy. This will determine if the "trauma" was the result of a targeted attack or a tragic accident.
-
The Suspect: As of Saturday morning, no arrests have been made. No descriptions of potential suspects have been released, leaving the building’s residents on edge.
Silence in the Building
Neighbors at the Nameoke Avenue address described a somber atmosphere as investigators spent Friday evening canvassing the halls for surveillance footage and witnesses. For now, the hallways remain a crime scene as the NYPD works to piece together the man's final moments.
The 101st Precinct is urging anyone who heard a disturbance or saw anything unusual on Friday afternoon to come forward.
