September 14, 2026 NEW YORK, NY A quiet Sunday evening in Harlem turned into a chaotic scene of horror when a driver struck a pedestrian on the Harlem River Drive and sped away into the night, leaving the victim fatally injured on the asphalt.
Emergency responders scrambled to the northbound lanes near High Bridge around 7:30 p.m. on September 13 following an urgent 911 call. Officers arriving from the 33rd Precinct found an unidentified woman lying motionless in the roadway, having sustained catastrophic head trauma.
Preliminary findings indicate the woman had climbed over a protective barrier and stepped directly into the flow of traffic. Seconds later, a dark-colored sedan slammed into her with violent force, hurling her onto the pavement. Instead of pulling over or calling for help, the driver accelerated and vanished from the scene.
Paramedics rushed the victim to Harlem Hospital in critical condition, but medical staff were unable to save her. She was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Authorities have not yet released her name or age, pending official identification and family notification, though law enforcement sources noted she was known to local officers in the area.
