June 28, 2025 BRONX, NY – The streets of the Bronx saw a disturbing incident last month when a seemingly minor fender bender escalated into a terrifying knifepoint carjacking in the Melrose section of the borough. Now, the New York Police Department (NYPD) is turning to the public, releasing images of two suspects they believe are responsible for the May 18 theft of a man's 2008 Hyundai Elantra.

The Violent Encounter

According to police reports, the harrowing event unfolded at approximately 11:00 p.m. on May 18, 2025, in front of 720 East 151st Street, near Jackson Avenue. A 36-year-old man was standing next to his 2008 Hyundai Elantra when he was approached by two unknown individuals.

Investigators say a verbal dispute began between the trio, reportedly stemming from a minor fender bender. Details surrounding this initial accident remain sparse, but what followed was anything but minor. During the heated altercation, one of the suspects allegedly brandished a knife, forcibly entering the victim's vehicle and then driving away. The second suspect, meanwhile, fled the scene in a black Jeep.

Suspects Still at Large

Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident. However, the victim's Hyundai Elantra has yet to be recovered, leaving authorities eager for any information that could lead to the suspects' apprehension and the return of the stolen vehicle.

The NYPD has provided descriptions of the two individuals they are seeking:

  • Suspect 1: Described as a male with a medium complexion. He was last seen wearing a black baseball cap, a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants, and gray sneakers.
  • Suspect 2: Described as a male with a dark complexion. He was last seen wearing a black cap, a black jacket, gray sweatpants, and black sneakers.
