September 12, 2025 BAYCHESTER, BRONX – A disturbing knifepoint attack at a Bronx hotel has sent shockwaves through the city. Police are on the hunt for a man who allegedly raped and robbed a 25-year-old woman in broad daylight, according to a recent NYPD release. The brutal incident, which unfolded at the Hotel OPUS on East 222nd Street, has highlighted a troubling trend in violent crime across New York City.
The assault occurred just before 9 a.m. on Friday, August 29. Authorities report that the man entered a room with the victim, pulled a knife, and demanded money before robbing her of $400. He then forced the woman to undress and proceeded to sexually assault her. The suspect, described as having a dark complexion and last seen in a white t-shirt, blue jeans, and white sneakers, fled the scene on foot.
The victim was rushed to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi, where she was listed in stable condition. Sources close to the investigation revealed the victim and the suspect were "acquaintances," though the nature of their relationship and reason for being at the hotel remain unclear.
This violent crime underscores a concerning spike in sexual assaults across the city. The 47th Precinct, where the attack took place, has seen a significant increase in reported rapes, with 39 cases as of September 7—a jump from 31 during the same period last year. Citywide, the statistics are even more alarming, with a 23.6% increase in reported rapes compared to last year, totaling 1,389 cases across the five boroughs. The 75th Precinct in Brooklyn leads the city with the highest number of reported cases.
