February 7, 2026 BROOKLYN, NY typical Monday night commute turned into a fight for survival at the Lafayette Avenue station last month, leaving a 58-year-old woman traumatized and a "deranged" assailant on the loose.

A Near-Fatal Push

At approximately 10:00 p.m. on January 8, a woman was standing on the Manhattan-bound C train platform, minding her own business, when the unthinkable happened. Without warning or provocation, a stranger lunged from behind, sending the victim tumbling off the platform and onto the dangerous roadbed below.

The timing couldn’t have been more critical. In a city where seconds determine life or death, the victim was at the mercy of the third rail and oncoming transit.

"Seconds From Disaster"

What happened next was a testament to the New York spirit. As the perpetrator turned tail and vanished into the night, fellow straphangers didn’t just watch—they acted. A group of quick-thinking bystanders rushed to the edge, reaching down to hoist the woman back onto the platform before a train could enter the station.

The victim was rushed by EMS to Brookdale University Hospital. While she escaped with her life and is currently in stable condition, the hunt for her attacker is intensifying.

The Face of the Suspect

On February 6, the NYPD released surveillance images in hopes of identifying the woman responsible for this unprovoked assault.
