October 16, 2026 QUEENS, NY A quiet evening in College Point turned into a nightmare when two brazen thieves targeted a defenseless family pet right off a residential front yard.

On September 17, at approximately 6:00 p.m., a 10-year-old female Yorkshire Terrier named Chanel was enjoying the late afternoon air on the front lawn of a home near 130th Street and 14th Avenue. Within moments, what should have been a peaceful evening took a sinister turn.

According to police sources, a man and a woman approached the property on foot. Without hesitation, the pair scooped up the unsuspecting dog, bundled her into the back of a 2014 Subaru Forester, and sped away westbound down 14th Avenue before anyone could intervene.

A Devastating Loss for the Family

The stolen pet belongs to a 47-year-old woman who was away from the yard at the moment the abductors struck. Though no physical injuries were reported during the incident, the emotional toll on the owner is catastrophic.

Chanel, valued at $1,200, is far more than a costly purebred—she is a cherished companion who has spent a decade as part of a loving home. Due to the animal's monetary value, law enforcement officials have officially classified the case as a Grand Larceny.

Detectives Appeal to the Public for Help

Queens detectives are actively investigating the theft and tracking down leads to identify the couple and the getaway vehicle. Law enforcement is urging anyone with information, surveillance footage, or dashcam recordings from the area around 130th Street and 14th Avenue on the evening of September 17 to come forward immediately.

Every second counts when returning a missing pet home safely.
