March 9, 2026 BROOK:YN, NY The sun hadn’t even cleared the horizon over Brooklyn this Sunday when the rhythmic bass of a Canarsie nightlife staple was replaced by the deafening crack of gunfire.

Just after 5:00 AM on March 8, a normal night at Richard’s Restaurant and Bar on 94th Street and Avenue L transformed into a scene of sheer terror. What started as a social gathering ended with shattered glass, shell casings littering the pavement, and four New Yorkers fighting through the shock of bullet wounds.

The Ambush From the Shadows

Early reports from the 69th Precinct suggest this wasn't a standard barroom brawl that escalated. Instead, the horror arrived from the outside. Investigators believe a gunman stood on the sidewalk and opened fire directly through the windows, sending a spray of lead into the establishment.

The physical evidence left behind tells a grim story: multiple bullet holes pierced the glass, and a trail of brass shell casings marked the spot where the shooter stood before vanishing into the morning mist.

The Victims: A Community in the Crosshairs

As the smoke cleared, the carnage inside became apparent. First responders found a chaotic scene with victims scattered throughout the venue:

  • A 43-year-old woman shot in the leg (rushed to Kings County Hospital).

  • A 44-year-old man shot in the leg (transported to Brookdale Hospital).

  • A 44-year-old man shot in the arm (transported to Brookdale Hospital).

  • A 38-year-old woman shot in the leg (self-transported to Brookdale Hospital).

In a miraculous twist of fate, all four victims are currently listed in stable condition. While the physical wounds may heal, the trauma of the 5:00 AM ambush will likely linger far longer.

A Gunman on the Loose

As of late Sunday morning, the NYPD's yellow tape still cordons off the intersection of 94th and Avenue L. Detectives are scouring the area for surveillance footage, but the motive remains a complete mystery. No description of the shooter has been released, and no arrests have been made.

The shooter is still out there, and the NYPD is pleading for the public's help to get a violent criminal off the streets before they strike again.
