For three decades, I've seen the worst that humanity has to offer, and a case like this—involving a generational conspiracy to commit murder—still manages to shock.
The Ambush on White Plains Road
It all started on the evening of October 7th, just before the city’s evening rush truly kicked into gear. A 911 call reporting an “assault in progress” drew officers to 3254 White Plains Road. They didn't find a simple scuffle. They found a man, Fareed Adeyi, 26, clinging to life, shot multiple times in the chest. Despite the frantic efforts of first responders and the trauma team at Jacobi Hospital, Adeyi succumbed to his wounds. He was gone.
The scene of the crime is now a marker of death, a place where a young man's life was brutally cut short. The early hours of the investigation were spent piecing together what led to the deadly confrontation. It wasn't long before the trail led investigators to a shocking conclusion: the alleged perpetrators were a father-and-son team.
Generational Allegiance: The Arrests
The first major break in the case came on October 17th, with the arrest of Norman Moore, 64. A man old enough to be a grandfather, now facing a murder charge.
But the net wasn't done drawing tight. Just this week, detectives with the 47th Precinct confirmed they had secured their second suspect: Norman's son, Devonte Moore, 24. Taken into custody Wednesday night, the younger Moore’s arrest effectively closes the initial hunt for the suspects in the killing of Fareed Adeyi.
Both father and son have been hit with the heaviest possible charges: murder, manslaughter, and criminal possession of a weapon. These aren't minor counts; these are charges that suggest a clear intent to kill.
