June 16, 2025 NEW YORK, NY – A somber start to the week in Manhattan's Gramercy neighborhood, as a man tragically died Monday morning after being struck by an MTA bus. The incident, which occurred just after 5:30 a.m. at the busy intersection of East 28th Street and 3rd Avenue, has prompted an ongoing investigation by the New York City Police Department.
Early Morning Tragedy Unfolds
According to NYPD reports, emergency services were dispatched at 5:33 a.m. on June 16, responding to a 911 call regarding a serious motor vehicle collision. Officers from the 13th Precinct arrived quickly at the scene, where they found an unidentified male pedestrian had been hit by an MTA bus.
The Collision Details
Preliminary findings indicate the MTA bus, operated by a 41-year-old male driver, was traveling northbound on 3rd Avenue. The pedestrian, whose identity has not yet been released, was reportedly crossing East 28th Street from east to west when the collision occurred.
Victim Succumbs to Injuries at Bellevue
Following the impact, paramedics swiftly transported the injured pedestrian to NYC Health + Hospitals / Bellevue, a Level 1 Trauma Center often equipped to handle the most severe injuries. Despite their best efforts, the victim was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
Investigation Underway, No Arrests Made
The bus driver remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities after the incident. As of Monday, no arrests have been made, and the NYPD's investigation into the circumstances surrounding this fatal accident is actively continuing.
