July 24, 2025 THE BRONX, N.Y. – In a disturbing incident shaking straphangers, an unprovoked attack on a 64-year-old man aboard a southbound 2 train Tuesday afternoon has prompted a swift search by the NYPD. The victim, whose identity has not been released, was reportedly punched in the face by a suspect as the train approached the bustling 149th Street-Grand Concourse station.
The assault, which occurred around 1:50 p.m., saw the assailant randomly strike the seated victim, according to authorities. Following the attack, a brief dispute reportedly erupted between the suspect and other concerned passengers before the individual fled the train. The victim was transported to a local hospital, fortunately sustaining only minor injuries.
Police have released a video of the suspect, described as a man with black hair, last seen wearing a dark-colored blazer, a dark-colored t-shirt, dark-colored pants, and white sneakers. The NYPD is urging the public to come forward with any information that could lead to an arrest.
