June 24, 2025 BRONX, NY – In a grim start to Tuesday, Bronx detectives are actively investigating an early-morning shooting that left a 22-year-old man dead in the Morris Heights neighborhood. The incident, reported just after 4:30 a.m. on June 24, occurred at 1836 Cedar Avenue, a location near West Tremont Avenue and the Major Deegan Expressway.
Officers from the NYPD's 46th Precinct swiftly responded to a 911 call concerning the shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered the victim with a critical bullet wound to the head. EMS personnel transported the gravely injured man to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. Authorities are withholding his identity pending notification of next of kin.
This tragic event marks a concerning blip in what has otherwise been a period of declining gun violence in the 46th Precinct. As of June 22, the precinct had recorded only two homicides year-to-date, a significant decrease from the 12 reported by the same point in 2024. Similarly, shooting incidents in the precinct had also seen a reduction, with 14 reported compared to 16 at this time last year.
As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the ongoing investigation. Police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
