June 2, 2025 Queens, NY – A tragic high-speed crash on the Long Island Expressway in late 2023, fueled by intoxication, has culminated in a guilty plea from the driver responsible. Reginald Nash, 26, of Roosevelt, has admitted to aggravated vehicular homicide and assault charges, taking responsibility for the death of one passenger and severe injuries to three others, including his own sister. The announcement came Friday from Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz, bringing a step closer to justice for the victims of this preventable tragedy.

The Deadly Details: Speed, Alcohol, and Catastrophe

The harrowing incident unfolded in the early morning hours of November 19, 2023, when Nash’s 2021 Honda Accord became a deadly projectile on the Long Island Expressway. Traveling at a staggering 89 miles per hour with a blood alcohol content of .12 percent – well above the legal limit – Nash lost control of his vehicle.

The catastrophic chain of events began near the Greenpoint Avenue exit around 4:30 a.m. Nash’s Honda first slammed into a highway attenuator, sending the car spiraling out of control. It then collided with a Toyota, which in turn struck a Kia. The impact left Nash’s vehicle severely damaged and facing the wrong direction on the expressway, a stark testament to the force of the collision.

Victims of a Reckless Choice

The consequences of Nash’s reckless actions were devastating. Cameron Mency, a 23-year-old passenger in Nash’s vehicle, was tragically ejected from the car, landing approximately 90 feet away. She was found unresponsive and later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

Three other passengers sustained severe injuries that will forever alter their lives. One victim endured multiple surgeries for debilitating back injuries, while another suffered a fractured tibia, along with significant head and body trauma. Adding to the heartbreak, Nash’s own sister was also among those seriously injured in the wreck.
