July 1, 2026 NEW YORK, NY A terrifying encounter aboard a Manhattan subway car has left straphangers on edge after a woman was sexually assaulted in broad daylight over the weekend. Police are now scouring the transit system for a brazen predator who struck during the peak of afternoon travel.
The disturbing incident proves once again that danger can lurk right next to you on your daily commute.
The Mid-Day Attack Aboard the R Train
The horror unfolded at approximately 3:00 PM on Sunday, June 28. A 30-year-old woman was riding a Queens-bound R train as it hurtled toward the 28th Street station in Midtown.
According to law enforcement sources, a male predator targeted the victim, approaching her on the moving train before fondling her intimately against her will.
A Desperate Escape
Terrified but acting quickly, the victim waited for the train to screech to a halt at the 28th Street platform. The moment the doors slid open, she bolted from the car to escape her attacker.
The suspect stayed on the train, melting back into the subway system as the train pulled away.
