August 12, 2025 MANHATTAN – A daring robbery unfolded in broad daylight on a busy Midtown street this weekend as three thieves chased down a man and held him at gunpoint inside a taxi to steal his pricey Cartier watch, according to police.
The victim, a 46-year-old man, was on West 37th Street near 5th Avenue around 5:15 p.m. Saturday when he was confronted by three men. Police said the suspects demanded his Cartier Santos wristwatch, a timepiece that can retail for over $7,000.
In a desperate attempt to escape, the man flagged down a taxi. But his flight was short-lived. The suspects allegedly pursued the cab on foot, catching up and forcing the taxi to stop. One of the men reportedly brandished a gun before the group made off with the watch.
The thieves fled the scene, leaving the victim unharmed but shaken. The NYPD is now asking for the public's help in identifying the suspects.
