July 20, 2026 QUEENS, NY — A quiet Thursday morning turned into a nightmare for an 81-year-old neighborhood fixture, leaving a community on edge and police launching a manhunt for a ruthless attacker.

The terrifying encounter unfolded at approximately 7:45 a.m. on July 16 right outside The Queens Temple Corps Community Center at 86-07 35th Ave. What began as an unprovoked verbal dispute quickly escalated into a stomach-churning act of violence against one of the neighborhood's most vulnerable residents.

The Attack and the Escape

According to NYPD sources, the suspect confronted the octogenarian before unleashing a vicious punch. The force of the blow left the elderly victim with a painful facial laceration and in deep distress.

Emergency Medical Services rushed to the scene, whisking the grandmother to nearby Elmhurst Hospital. While she is currently listed in stable condition, the psychological trauma of such a brazen daylight assault is immeasurable.

The perpetrator didn't stick around to face the music. He fled the scene on foot immediately after the strike.

Suspect Description: Police are hunting for a man last seen wearing a crisp white T-shirt and a standard baseball cap.

A Statistical Anomaly in a Changing Neighborhood

What makes this crime particularly jarring is where it happened. The 115th Precinct has actually seen a remarkable 22% drop in felony assaults recently, according to the latest NYPD data. Yet, as long-time residents know, statistics mean very little when a beloved senior can't safely walk past a community center at breakfast time.

As of today, the coward remains at large, and detectives are scouring the area for security footage.
